Family descended from John Benson, a barrister in Thorne, Yorkshire, England, who emigrated to the United States in 1833 and Friedrich Julius Gustorf, the son of a banker in Cassel, Hesse, Germany who emigrated in 1819. Benson settled, with his wife and six children near Peoria, Ill. in 1834 and he died in 1836. His daughter, Harriet married Gustorf in 1837 and he started a general merchandise store in Peoria, but died of cholera in 1845. Their son, Freiderich married Sarah Collins, descendant o...
